$10,000 an hour
I charge $10,000 an hour to speak in person.
I feel exhilarated saying that out loud. That's $166.66 per minute. One minute of work pays for a 90-minute massage. That is so cool.
The least I've ever made speaking is $0. The most I've made in a single afternoon is $17,500 plus travel and expenses for my husband and me.
Growing up without much money, those numbers sound wild. But I've spoken in 8 countries, over 50 cities. I've done a TEDx talk. I've been on Good Morning America. I've spoken for NATO three times. At $10,000 an hour, I'm the bargain.
It took me six years to get from $0 to $10,000 a session. Six years. That's too long. It shouldn't take you that long.
This isn't just a story about speaking fees. It's about your hair product. Your membership. Your consulting rate. Whatever you sell, the number you put on it tells the world what you think you're worth.
Here's what I know: pricing takes real work. Research. Competitive analysis. Profitability math. You have to factor in what you bring to the table, not just what the market will bear. Do that work. Do it thoroughly.
Then, once you know your number? Ask for it. Put it on your website. Stop discounting. Stop apologizing.
You know you're going to rock your client's world. Make sure they compensate you for it.
As women, getting paid fairly starts with us. We don't just have to get comfortable talking about money. We have to love it. Relish it. Own it out loud.
Let everybody know what you're worth. Because you already do.
